Lessons to Learn from Indigenous Peoples
When talking about the Sustainable Development Goals, my group members and I would express how we sad we felt that they—and this world they belong to—seemed so far away. However, as we bring our focus to Indigenous groups throughout the globe, we can see that these dreams are not far away, and they're not even something that people in the UN or policymakers have to spend time creating.
The Mapuche people have fought for land rights for centuries. Placing them in the present does not just refer to their identities, but also to their politics. It means to have them lead conversations regarding ecosystems and life.
While I had originally meant for this project to be an exhibition, it unraveled to be more of a collection of resources and spotlights. It became hard for me to not feel like I was contributing to the uneven power dynamics in museum spaces, and I did not want to further the feelings (and reality) of surveillance and captivity of Indigenous people. This website explores how Mapuche people have interacted with the recently articulated "terricidio" over the years.
This is a tribute to all of the Mapuche fighters.
They have the opportunity for us to save the earth.

Learn about Elicura Chihuailaf, a world-renowned Mapuche poet who pushed the Mapuche worldview into global circles.
