The
great Mapuche poet
everybody
knows
Elicura Chihuailaf

After publishing Recado Confidencial a Los Chilenos, Chihuailaf became one of the main faces of the Mapuche people, where he entered the Mapuche voice into the hierarchical Western knowledge creation, establishing a place for Indigenous people.
He explains the complexities of the Mapuche worldview and documents the first-person experiences of Mapuche in order to promote an intercultural dialogue and provide an alternative to state-driven historical accounts. However, he never strays away from making clear arguments against current oppressive global systems such as how capitalism is furthering cultural and ecological genocide.
